Covenant Day is excited to introduce Flik Independent School Dining as its new dining program partner beginning in the 2018-2019 school year. Students will have the opportunity to enjoy a variety of well-balanced, nutritious, and allergy-friendly meal options for purchase each day. By providing a well-balanced lunch, Flik Independent School Dining strives to improve the overall health and eating habits of students.
SUSTAINABLE + LOCALLY PRODUCED
As often as possible, Flik serves foods that meet responsible and sustainable agricultural practices. Flik leads the foodservice industry with groundbreaking policies such as:
Championing local family farmers and Fair Trade.
- Sourcing foods that are produced with minimal use or free of chemicals and antibiotics.
- Supporting campaigns that reward the efforts of farmers and laborers.
NUTRITION + DIETARY NEEDS
Flik understands the importance of educating students about what they are eating and takes every opportunity to teach them something new about the foods they see in the dining room. Their Food Focus program teaches about specific foods around the world and the Healthy Foods Matter Program shows health foods in a new light. The chef’s exciting Tastings Program empowers students to try new foods at their own pace. They have the opportunity to sample unfamiliar foods in small bites, rate them, and let the chef know if they’d like to see them on upcoming menus. This allows the students to help build the program they want to see!
Flik’s chef will work with any families that may have concerns regarding the dietary needs of their children. In addition to a posted allergy board, all foods are labeled and the chef is available during lunch to answer any questions students may have.
Every day students have a choice of hot and cold main dishes including vegetarian and gluten-free options, vegetables, salads, a deli option, fresh fruit, a la carte items, and a choice of milk, 100% fruit juice, or WaterWorks (Flik’s fruit infused water program). Middle school and high school students will eat lunch in the High School Student Commons and lower school students will eat in the Lower School Dining Hall. Breakfast, coffee, and after school snacks will also be available in the High School Student Commons for middle school and high school students. Monthly menus, promotions, and the chef’s contact information will be available on the Dining Program tab in the MyCDS portal.
