Game Recap 12/17 v Marvin Ridge

For their third game of the season, our Lions headed to Marvin Ridge at the start of Christmas break. The girls did a great job of handling the full-court pressure and also successfully enacted our offensive sets early in the game. By coming out aggressively, the team caught the Mavericks by surprise and took a small advantage into the locker room at the half. Bailey Edwards played a phenomenal first half, as she pulled in seven rebounds and also recorded two blocks. After the break, the Marvin Ridge team stage a rally and outscored the Lions in the third quarter. Our girls bounced back in the fourth quarter to chip away at the Mavericks' lead, but were unable to overtake them before the clock ran out. Edwards finished with an impressive 12 rebounds and four blocks, Emily Barnwell recorded four steals, and Anna Kouvlatos came off the bench and chipped in 10 points for the Lions. The team will be in action again on Jan. 3rd at Arborbrook Christian.

Game Recap 11/29/2018 v Charlotte Catholic

The JV Lions traveled to Charlotte Catholic on 11/29 to take on the Cougars in a 3:30 matchup. Our girls were quickly overwhelmed by a Catholic team that exhibited good team chemistry and experience. Emily Barnwell stepped up defensively for the Lions and pressured the Cougars' ball-handlers throughout the game, and the rest of our players never gave up in spite of the lopsided score. Coach Young said, "Even though we lost, this game brought us closer as a team and we learned lessons that will be valuable later in the season." Next up for the Lions is an away game at Marvin Ridge on 12/17, starting at 4:30 p.m.

Game Recap 11/20/2018 v Corvian Community School

Our JV Girls opened their season with a home contest against the Cardinals of Corvian Community School. The Lions got off to a slow start offensively, but played great defense to keep the score close throughout the first quarter. Improved offense and consistent defense in the second period of play gave the Lions a one-point advantage at the halftime break. Our Lady Lions came out strong in the second half with a big 3rd quarter performance by Katie Hallenbeck at the point guard position and sisters Caden and Cooper Clark adding to the score for a four-point lead going into the last quarter. Despite their efforts, the Lions were edged out by the Cardinals at the final buzzer, for a narrow loss of 27-29. Katherine Neil's aggressive defense nabbed three steals for the game, and freshman Cooper Clark netted 10 points for the Lions. The team will be on the road for their next game, as they take on Charlotte Catholic on 11/29 at 3:30 p.m.
