Theo Schaffer - Head Coach | EMAIL
Coach Schaffer is originally from Lumberton, MS where he grew up playing varsity football and basketball at Purvis High School. He holds an associate's degree in Physical Education as well as a bachelor's degree in Education with a focus on English. Schaffer became an ordained minister after completing his studies at Aenon Bible College. He is also a published author, pastor, and was a featured speaker at TEDxCharlotte 2018. Schaffer has four years of experience coaching JV/Varsity boys' basketball and two years of coaching both boys and girls AAU basketball teams. Coach Schaffer joined the CDS coaching staff in 2018.
Jake Doster - Asst. Coach | EMAIL
Coach Doster is a native of Charlotte, NC. He grew up as an all-around athlete, and chose to focus on playing basketball during his high school career at South Mecklenburg High School. Doster earned his bachelor's degree in education at University of North Carolina - Wilmington and has a K-12 certification for Health and Physical Education. He also attended Gardner-Webb University where he obtained a Master of Arts in Executive Leadership Studies (K-12). Coach Doster coached basketball at Friend School in Wilmington and Mint Hill Middle before joining the field hockey coaching staff at Covenant Day in 2017.

Game Recap 1/8/2019 vs Providence Day School
The Lions opened their regular conference schedule with a home game against Providence Day. The Chargers gave our boys a very tough matchup on both ends of the court, and dealt the Lions a 34-53 loss. Scoring for the Lions was led by Daniel Nelson and Landon Coggins, who chipped in 11 and 6 points respectively. The team will be in action again on Thursday, 1/10, as they host Metrolina for a 4:00 game.
Game Recap 1/5/2019 vs Carolina Day School
Despite a valiant effort by the JV Lions, the lost a very close contest to the Wildcats for Carolina Day. Daniel Nelson led the scoring with 12 points in the 47-51 loss. The team looks forward to starting the CISAA conference season with a home game against Providence Day on Tuesday, Jan. 8th, at 6:00 p.m.
Game Recap 12/18/2018 vs Christ the King
The Lions got off to a good start at home against the Crusaders, as they built a 22-18 lead in the first half. After the halftime break, the team couldn't maintain their lead and saw the momentum shift into the opponent's favor. The Lions suffered a 40-53 loss to the Crusaders and fell to 2-5 on the season. When they return from the holiday break, the team will head to Carolina Day School for a 1:00 game on Jan. 5th.
Game Recap 12/17/2018 vs Marvin Ridge
In an away game on the first day of their Christmas break, the JV Lions fell short to the Mavericks of Marvin Ridge. Their current record stands at 2 wins and 4 losses. Tomorrow they host Christ the King in the CDS Main Gym at 4:00 p.m.
Game Recap 12/4 vs Queens Grant
After taking two consecutive losses, the JV Lions bounced back with a satisfying win over Queens Grant in their second home game of the season. Every member of the team contributed to the 70-26 win, with Luke Crumpler knocking in a team-high 12 points, followed closely by Jake Takah with a total of 11 for the afternoon. The team will be in action again on 12/17 at Marvin Ridge.
Game Recap 11/29/2018 vs Charlotte Catholic
Our JV Boys competed hard against a very well-rounded team from Catholic. The Lions struggled offensively in the first half and only managed 13 points before the break. The Cougars' defense shut down opportunities to score in the second half as well, and the final result was 25-53. Coach Schaffer said it was a "great learning experience" and looks forward to what it will help the team become. Next up is a home game against Queens Grant on 12/4.
Game Recap 11/27/2018 vs Victory Christian Center School
The JV Lions traveled to Victory Christian Center for an away matchup on the Tuesday following the Thanksgiving break. The team and coaches anticipated that this would be one of the toughest games of the season. Both the Lions and the Kings suffered more than ten turnovers each, and several lead changes occurred throughout the game. Several of our JV Lions scored from the perimeter, but were unable to maintain the lead down the stretch. CDS lost the advantage to a late three-pointer and an unfortunate turnover in the final second of play that resulted in 40-43 loss.
Game Recap 11/12/2018 vs Arborbrook Christian Academy
Covenant Day hosted the Falcons of Arborbrook Christian Academy for their first home game of the season. Our Lions played terrific defense while scoring in consistent spurts for a 63-49 victory. James Hobson tallied 14 points as the team's high scorer, followed closely by Drew Anderson who netted 13 points for the game. Next up for the Lions is an away game at Victory Christian Center on Tuesday, Nov. 27th.
Game Recap 11/9/2018 vs Greensboro Day School
The JV Lions kicked off their season with a road trip to take on the Bengals of Greensboro Day School. The team took the court with great anticipation but experienced some jitters in the first half that caused them to fall behind, 7-23. Our Lions rallied in the second half of play and nearly tripled their first-half total, but could not overtake the Bengals. JV finished with a score of 27-38. The team looks forward to hosting Arborbrook on Monday, Nov. 12th.
