Karen Stewart - Head Coach |EMAIL

Coach Stewart was a four-year varsity volleyball player during her high school career in Japan. She attended Central Piedmont Community College and UNC-Charlotte. She has worked as the Administrative Assistant at Christ Our Shepherd children's ministries for seventeen years. Her extensive coaching career includes two years in Japan, eleven years at the Carolina Juniors Volleyball club, and twelve years at Covenant Day at all levels from middle school to varsity. Coach Stewart joined the CDS coaching staff in 2004.

Zach Turner - Asst. Coach | EMAIL

Coach Turner grew up in Charlotte, NC where he played basketball for Charlotte Christian before graduating and moving on to play at the University of Tennessee. He earned his bachelor's degree in Communications from UT and currently teaches Bible and Latin in the Covenant Day middle school. Coach Turner has 13 years of coaching experience, including five years as a head coach. He began coaching at Covenant Day in 2012.

Weekly Recap 8/27-8/31

The JV Lions played their first official match of the season when they traveled to Fort Mill High School on Tuesday, Aug. 28th. The team started strong with a kill by Mailey Garner, but quickly fell behind when they committed seven serve-receive errors in a row. The Lions dropped the first set by a score of 9-25. The second set looked better as they improved their performance on the court, but still could not completely recover and recorded a 22-25 loss.

On Thursday, the team hosted Wesleyan Christian in the CDS gym for the first home match of the season. After dropping the first set to the Trojans, 15-25, the Lions rebounded to win the second set, 25-20. In the final set, the Lions fell behind early, 6-11. Megan Carlson completed 5 consecutive serves combined with two kills by Mailey Garner, to pull within a point of Wesleyan. The Lions marched forward to get the win, with Elle Kelada scoring the last point of the set.
