Covenant Day Athletics strives to ensure our student-athletes receive quality medical care while participating in athletics at Covenant Day. Our goal is to provide accurate and timely injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation, return to play protocol, and education to our athletes and Covenant Day community.We contract with Select Medical to provide a licensed and nationally certified athletic trainer who works directly with physicians and other specialists to optimize medical care. Additional trainers are provided as needed for each area of the campus. A trainer is available after school and is also present at all home events and practices. The trainer also coordinates with our opponents to ensure coverage at away events.
Covenant Day takes a serious approach to all potential concussions, placing priority on the student-athlete’s safety and well-being. Our trainer collects pre-concussion data on athletes by conducting ImPACT Testing for those involved in contact or high-impact sports. This tool can be used in the assessment of a student-athlete if a concussion is suspected. In compliance with the Gfeller-Waller Concussion Awareness Act, any student-athlete suspected of having a concussion is removed from play and must follow a strict return to play protocol. If a student-athlete reports any symptoms of concussion, or if a parent notices the symptoms or signs of a concussion, the student-athlete should be immediately removed from activity and reported to the training staff.
All Covenant Day coaches are First Aid and CPR/AED certified through the Red Cross Association and have completed the concussion specific training course provided by the NFHS in conjunction with the CDC. Parents and Students are encouraged to visit the “Heads Up” page from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and take this FREE online course entitled “Concussion in Sports”.
Before students are allowed to participate in Covenant Day Athletics,, all required forms must be completed and uploaded through Magnus Health in the MyCDS portal. The athletic requirements will appear after answering “yes” to the Conditional Questions requirement at the top of the list.
Additionally, the $25 athletic participation fee must be paid for each student-athlete annually. Instructions for making this payment are included in Magnus Health under the “Actions/View Details” area of this requirement.
