6 CDS Student-Athletes Sign National Letters of Intent

Spring Signing Day

This spring, four CDS athletes signed National Letters of Intent, for a total of 6 CDS students continuing their athletic career at the collegiate level. 

Robbie Johnson signed to run track & field at Western Colorado University, a Division 2 program, and will study Computer Science. 

Robbie has been a part of the Cross Country and Track program since he was in 6th grade. He set the 400m and 800m CDS school records. He is also a member of the fastest CDS 4x800 relay team. 

CDS track coach Josh Nguyen said, “Over the years, Robbie has assisted our program in raising the next generation with passion and drive. He leads not just with words of encouragement and leading them in workouts but physically, breaking multiple records in his time at Covenant Day. He is a young man whose attitude has always been team-oriented and goal-driven. The work he has done for our track program will be a legacy of faithful leadership and a story of overcoming obstacles time and time again!”

Colden Welsh signed to run cross country and track and Field at Colorado Christian University, a Division 2 school that competes in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, one of the most competitive conferences in Division 2. Colden will study ministry at Colorado Christian University scholarship where he has earned a cross country and track & field scholarship.

Colden has left his mark at CDS  during his four year varsity and track & field athlete career, holding numerous school records in the 300m, 1600m, 3200m, 2000m steeplechase and 5000m. He was named First Team All-Conference all four years for cross country and two years for track & field. 

CDS cross country coach, John Yasenchok said, "Colden Welsh has been an invaluable part of our XC/TF program. He learned early how to race from the front, and now it’s all he knows how to do. He and several other seniors have also poured into our younger runners in spiritually meaningful ways."

Will Goodling signed to play men’s soccer for the Gordon College, a Division 2 christian college. 


Throughout his HS career at CDS, Will was a 4-year varsity starter, 2nd team all-conference player his Junior Year, 1st team all-conference player his senior year, Conference player of the year his senior year, NCISAA 4A All-State Player, Senior Captain, and was voted by the team as the most worthy of the Christian Character Award.

CDS Soccer Coach Julius Khlor said, “Will Goodling is a special player whose accolades speak for themselves. His impact goes well beyond these deserved recognitions. His teammates describe him as Christ-like, Compassionate, and Uplifting. Will consistently demonstrated what it means to pursue excellence while fixing His eyes and those around him towards Christ. We are excited to see Will continue to grow and succeed while at Gordon.”


Kessler Forrest signed to join the Messiah Falcon’s men soccer team, a Division 3 program. 

Kessler was a dominant force in the net throughout his HS career. Kessler was a 1-year starter on JV before becoming a 3-year starter on Varsity. He was awarded 1st team all-conference his senior year, was a senior captain, and was voted by the team as the most-valuable-player.

CDS Soccer Coach Julius Khlor said, “Kessler consistently demonstrated what it means to be a servant-leader. This was demonstrated through his desire to lead and be a part of our first ever LS Boys Soccer Clinic. His teammates describe him as Trustworthy, Reliable, and a Servant-Leader. We are excited to see Kessler continue to grow and succeed while at Messiah.”
