David Houseton - The Gold Standard

Varsity baseball head coach David Houseton has been named to USA Baseball’s 2026 12U National Team Coaching Staff. This is Houseton’s first selection to the USA Baseball coaching staff.

Now in his 18th season as the varsity head baseball coach at CDS, Coach Houseton has consistently guided the Lions to the state playoffs and fostered multiple All-Conference and All-State athletes. Twice recognized as Coach of the Year, he brings significant experience to the field. In addition to his work at CDS, Houseton owns and operates the South Charlotte Braves Baseball Academy, where he has coached travel ball for a decade. Through this academy, he has helped dozens of athletes reach the collegiate level. His own athletic journey included playing outfield at Motlow State and North Alabama.

“I am extremely grateful and humbled to represent my country,” said Coach Houseton. “I hope that this opportunity continues to highlight all the positives and opportunities there are here at Covenant Day School.”

Houseton is joining a team that is no stranger to success. Last summer, Team USA won the 2025 World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) U-12 Baseball World Cup in Tainan, Taiwan. The 12U National Team has won nine gold medals in international competition since its inception in 2013. The U.S. has medaled in six of the seven WBSC U-12 Baseball World Cups it has participated in and currently leads all nations with six World Cup titles. Coach Houseton said, “The ultimate goal is to bring back another gold medal!”

Training Camp for this summer’s event will be held in Cary, NC, June 22-26. Details for this summer’s event will be announced at a later date.
