8 CDS Students Celebrate Athletic Collegiate Commitments

On Thursday, April 24, eight CDS athletes committed to continuing their athletic careers at the collegiate level.

Landon DeCarlo signed to play lacrosse at Berry College, a Division III Christian college.

“Landon’s journey through our combined lacrosse program has been one defined by selflessness, perseverance, and a quiet yet powerful leadership. He’s the kind of player every coach dreams of, not because of stats and accolades, but because of his willingness to do whatever it takes for the team,” said Head Coach Bobby Wehane. “Off the field, Landon leads with humility and a quiet confidence grounded in faith. He doesn’t need the spotlight; his actions speak volumes. He’s a teammate first, a competitor always, and a Christ-centered young man who exemplifies servant leadership.”

Landon has been a member of the Lacrosse co-op with Charlotte Christian for the past 3 seasons.

Tyler Dennison signed to play football at Grove City College, a Division III Christian college.

Head Coach Mike Hawks shared fond memories of Tyler. Coach Hawks said, “Tyler started for us for four years. He’s one of the hardest workers. He’s the kind of kid that if he says something, you better listen. Grove City is getting a gem. He is one of the hard-nosed, toughest, honest kids I have ever coached in my life. He and his family stand for everything that Covenant Day stands for.”

Tyler has been a member of the CDS Football program since his freshman year. Tyler’s hard work was recognized in his senior season when he was named to the CISAA All-Conference First Team and the NCISAA All-State team.

Sean Freace signed to play soccer at Covenant College, a Division III Christian college.

“It’s no surprise Sean is going on to play at the next level. I think it is easy to see the attributes he brings on the field,” said Head Coach Julius Klohr. “Sean is so much more than just an athlete. When I think back to how his teammates, classmates, and peers describe Sean, they describe him as passionate, loyal, determined, and an authentic leader. When I think about Sean’s lasting impact on the CDS soccer program, that is what I think about.”

Sean has been a part of the CDS soccer program since middle school. In his junior season, he earned 2nd Team All-Conference honors. He was named to the CISAA First Team All-Conference, NCISAA All-State Team, and Charlotte Observer First Team in his senior season.

Hamilton Huitt signed to play tennis at Queens University at Charlotte, a Division I program.

“What a blessing to coach this young man for the past 3 years. Hamilton has completely dominated conference play. He, in my opinion, is one of the best tennis players to come through Covenant Day,” said Head Coach David Johnson. “This is not what identifies him. His identity is solely in Christ. Everything he does is about how can I glorify the Lord in all that I do. Queens will be blessed with him – not only as a tennis player but everything he is about.”

In his four seasons with CDS Varsity Tennis, Hamilton was named to the NCISAA All-State (’ 23), First Team All-Conference (’ 23,’ 24), and Second Team All-Conference (‘22).

Everett Macurda signed to play volleyball at Messiah University, a Division III Christian college.

“If you have ever seen Everett compete in volleyball, you know why he is going to Messiah University to compete for the Falcons,” said Head Club Boys Volleyball Coach Stephen Keefer. “His passion for the sport, his hard work in the weight room, and his dedication to improve as a player - get stronger and jump higher, he’s done all those things. He has done all that while building up the guys around him as well.”

Everett has been a member of the CDS Club Volleyball team for the past three seasons. He is the first CDS athlete to earn a men’s volleyball scholarship.

Chris Rivens signed to play basketball at Guilford College, a Division III Christian college.

Head Coach Michael Laney said, “The thing I love about Chris and one of the best things Guilford is getting - they are getting a light. They are getting a young man who does things the right way. What is special about Chris is the impact he has, the influence he has, and how he inspires others to be great – that is who Chris is. He is confident in who he is, confident in who God called him to be, and confident to go to [Guilford] knowing his assignment, which is beyond basketball. He understands his assignment is to go there and leave a legacy.”

Chris has been a member of the CDS basketball program since middle school. In his junior season, Chris earned All-Conference Honorable Mention and helped guide the team to their first ever final four appearance. He was named to the All-Conference Second Team during his senior season.

Isaac Snapp signed to play baseball at Southeastern Community College, an NJCAA program.

“I watched Isaac grow in several areas – he continues to mature and make solid decisions. I watched [him] persevere in the classroom even on days when it was the hardest. I watched him grow as a leader and grow spiritually. It’s just been a blessing watching Isaac grow into the man God wants him to be,” said Head Coach David Houseton. “Isaac is going to be missed – his personality, his smile, and the effort that he brings to the baseball field every day.”

Isaac has been a part of the CDS baseball program since middle school. He earned second-team all-conference honors in his sophomore season and helped the team reach the NCISAA Final Four.

Tyree White signed to play basketball at Hampden-Sydney College, a Division III program.

“Tyree was able to accomplish a lot of great things on and off the basketball court, but most importantly the young man that he has become and the young man that Covenant Day has helped him become, to go and do the next stage of his life at Hampden-Sydney is beyond a blessing,” said Head Coach Michael Laney.

Tyree has been on the Varsity Basketball team for the last two seasons. In his junior season, he earned 2nd Team All-Conference honors after helping the team make its first Final Four appearance. Following his senior season, he was named to the First-Team All-Conference and All-State Teams.

Congratulations to these eight athletes as they continue their future athletic endeavors. We can’t wait to cheer you on at the next level, but remember, you will always be a Lion!
