2 Student-Athletes Commit to D1 Schools

2 Student-Athletes Commit to D1 Schools

Two CDS athletes signed National Letters of Intent as part of the fall 2023 signing day!

CDS Varsity Boys Basketball athlete Michael Marcus Jr signed to play basketball at Appalachian State University in 2024. Appalachian State University is a D1 school and competes in the Sun Belt Conference.

During his time at CDS, Michael scored 310 career points and earned 212 rebounds. Recently returned to CDS after a year at Carmel Christian School, Michael was named a "Player to Watch" in the Charlotte Observer's high school basketball preview.

CDS Basketball Coach Michael Laney said, "Michael Marcus Jr is an amazing young man who has committed to being the best student-athlete he can be. Michael is a joy to be around. App State Head Coach Dustin Kerns has gotten a good one!"

Varsity Field Hockey athlete Emily Eaton committed to play at Louisville, a top 10 ranked D1 program. At 34 career goals, Emily is our school's all-time leading goal scorer in Field Hockey. In the 2023 season, she served as a captain, scored 18 of 24 season goals, and earned MVP.  She is a 3-time CISAA First Team All-Conference player, a 3-time NCISAA All-State selection, CISAA Conference Player of the Year 2023, and a 2-time Nexus Nationals Selection (Olympic development program). In 2022, she was selected for the Junior Olympic Team, and in 2023, she attended the U18 USAFH Selection Camp for a possible spot on the U18 National Team.

CDS Field Hockey Coach Rachael Klohr said, "It has been a blessing to coach Emily and watch this incredibly talented and gifted athlete put in the hard work to become the player that she is today. More than that, it has been a privilege to watch her grow into an incredibly humble, selfless leader who shines the Light of Christ through her play. Emily knows what it means to worship through her sport, and you can see it anytime she steps foot on the field. Coaching her for the past 6 years has been one of the great joys of my coaching career!"

Congratulations to these athletes and their signing schools! We look forward to seeing their athletic careers continue beyond CDS!
