Restoration & Sustainability

Lorem Ipsum Dolor

Covenant Day embraces the challenge of caring for God’s world through integrated programs of instruction that seek to restore and sustain God’s peace in nature and society. Through our Restoration and Sustainability (R&S) initiatives, we strive to cultivate and create opportunities for students to engage with the world from a missional perspective, seeing every student sharing the love of Christ in purposeful and practical ways while growing their faith and serving our community and the Kingdom.

Purposefully Practical

The mission of Restoration and Sustainability (R&S) is to cultivate hands-on learning experiences that take students beyond the classroom and into the world, equipping them with practical skills they can apply with purpose and intention. From the Butterfly Garden, a certified wildlife habitat, and the aquaponics pond to on-campus labs and partnerships across Charlotte and around the globe, Covenant Day students learn to think critically about real-world issues and develop solutions that create lasting impact for the glory of Jesus Christ. Each R&S focus area invites students to engage deeply with some of the most pressing challenges of our time.

Areas of Focus

Improving Literacy

High school students in the Augustine Literacy Partnership receive extensive training in the Orton-Gillingham approach and then use their skills to tutor students in the community who struggle with literacy. So far, 34 individual students have received tutoring.

Responding to Hunger Needs

Students have worked with partner ministries to meet hunger needs by setting up aquaponic systems at The Nest Academy in East Charlotte and in Haiti, providing sustainable food production. They also made a kitchen from shipping containers to help a ministry partner in Belize.

Sustainable Housing

Students have transformed eight shipping containers, providing jobs, housing, and community spaces for people in need. Using applied microbusiness principles, they also operate a coffee shop where proceeds benefit the impoverished. They’ve sold 1,130 coffee drinks!

Responsible Technology

Students engage technology in meaningful ways. In middle school, students learn foundational concepts in 3D design and printing, coding, and creative problem-solving. In high school, those foundations grow, allowing students to develop solutions to real-world problems.
