Important Information: New Medical Guidelines for all Grade Levels
In an effort to provide the best and safest care for our students, we are asking for additional documentation if your child has asthma, allergies, or any chronic medical condition; and/or if you’d like us to ever administer medicine (over the counter or prescription) to your child. If either apply to your family, please fill out and return the required forms. More information, including all of the forms, can be found on the Documents and Forms page for your school (Lower School | Middle School | High School). CDS Car Directories
Bound CDS directories in a convenient size to keep in your car will be available for $5 each. You can purchase them during morning and afternoon carpool Monday, October 6 – Wednesday, October 8.
Charlotte Area Independent Schools College Fair
The Charlotte Area Independent Schools (CAIS) College Fair attracts close to 200 representatives from colleges and universities from across the country, providing first-hand information to area high school students and their parents during the college search process. The event will be held Saturday, September 27 (1:00-3:00 p.m.) at the Charlotte Convention Center. Make the most of your college fair experience! Go to www.caiscollegefair.com/fair/students for ideas on how to prepare, including creating address labels beforehand to save you time when filling out contact cards.
Christian College Fair
On Monday, September 29 (9:30-11:30 a.m.), the CDS Guidance Office will host 30-40 Christian colleges in the high school gym. All students will be given an opportunity to attend the fair during their morning classes.
National Christian College Fair
The National Christian College Fair will be held Monday, September 29 (6:30-8:30 p.m.) at Charlotte Christian School. More information, including a list of colleges and universities that will be represented, is available at myblueprintstory.com. Register online in advance. Students should print their barcode or save it on their smart phone to expedite entrance into the fair.
PSAT October 15
9th-11th graders: mark your calendars! The PSAT - a practice version of the SAT college admissions exam - will be given on Wednesday, October 15 (8:15-11:45 a.m.) at Covenant Day High School. Sitting for the PSAT will benefit students by creating familiarity with the material on the SAT, creating a baseline of scores for a student, as well as measuring the natural progression of student scores because of the classroom learning that is taking place from 9th to 11th grade. There is no need to register for this exam. All CDS 9th-11th grade students are automatically registered and will be expected on PSAT day.
Middle School Father/Son Breakfast
On Thursday, October 16, a Middle School Father/Son Breakfast will be held in the Fireplace Room from 7:30-8:05 a.m. Dads, this is a great opportunity to spend some time with your son(s). If Dad happens to be unavailable, a grandfather, uncle, or family friend can join the student. A light breakfast will be served. Please take a moment to RSVP by clicking here.
Middle School Mother/Daughter Breakfast
Save the date! The Middle School Mother/Daughter Breakfast is scheduled for Thursday, November 13, 7:30-8:05 a.m.
LEGO Club is sponsored by CDS After School and is led by Cailey Sween. The purpose is to develop in children how to think in three dimensions, how to problem solve, and teamwork. The club will meet in room 109 on Fridays beginning October 3, as soon as school dismisses until 4:00 p.m. The cost is $65 for the 16-week session. Pineville Fall Festival Art Entries
The Visual Art Department is requesting entries for the Pineville Art Festival, which will be held October 17-18. Submit 2D artwork to the grade level art room by October 10. Twenty-five pieces of art will be chosen to represent Covenant Day School. Click here to download a spec sheet with more information.
Students Qualify for All-State Honors Band
Congratulations to the Savannah Lueck, Caroline Macurda, Harrison Chase and GiannaMarie Dobson for being selected to participate in the NCAIS All-State Honors Band. These students will spend two days preparing for and giving a concert on October 9-10 at Campbell University! Way to go!
High School Musical Auditions
Get your snapping fingers ready! This year’s high school musical production is The Addams Family. Performance dates are March 19–21, 2015. Auditions will be held in the Harbor Auditorium on Wednesday, November 12 (3:00-5:00 p.m.), Thursday, November 13 (3:30–6:00 p.m.), Friday, November 14 (3:30–5:30 p.m.), and Saturday, November 15 (10:00 a.m. – noon). Audition Workshop for High School Students
This is a repeat of the summer audition workshop for those who were unable to attend. Participants will learn the basics of preparing for a musical theatre audition, including practical tips on how to do a cold reading, how to prepare a song, and how to handle fear and anxiety. The workshop will be held Saturday, October 4 from 10:00 a.m. - noon. Sign-up is not required.
Lions Cup Tennis Tournament
Save the date and grab a tennis partner! The annual ladies CDS Lions Cup Tennis Tournament is set for Monday, October 20 at Blakeney Racquet and Swim Club from 9:00 a.m.-noon. All skill levels invited, from beginners to seasoned players. Cost is $50 and includes includes bagels, coffee and catered lunch! Don't forget to bring cash or check for the silent auction! The 3rd Annual CDS Holiday Market and Casserole Sale will be held Friday, November 21, from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at CDS. Moms Managing Media
All parents of lower school through high school students are invited to attend “Smart Parents and Smart Phones” on Thursday, October 2, 9:30-11:00 a.m. in the Fireplace Room. CDS Moms: Come Pray With Us!
Moms in Prayer groups meet weekly for one hour to give praise and thanks to God and to uplift our school family in prayer to Him! Come whenever you can. There are two opportunities each week:
Small Group Bible Study
It's not too late to join an Anchor Small group! An ideal one is on Wednesday morning just after dropoff, from 8:15-9:30 a.m. There are other small groups on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Book Discussion Group: The Price of Privilege
Covenant Day School’s counselor, Dawn Poulterer, M.A., will be leading a discussion through the book The Price of Privilege by Madeline Levine, Ph.D. We will be meeting every Thursday at 8:30 a.m. for five weeks (October 9 - November 13) to discuss the content of this powerful, research-packed book. Woodwind Player Needed
The Music Department is looking for a woodwind player (volunteer) to work the Wind and Strings Ensemble’s woodwind section. If you play a woodwind instrument and would like to work with these high school/8th grade students on Thursdays from 2:30-3:15, please contact Megan Tuttle at email@example.com.
The Covenant Day High School Beta Club is hosting a Jeans Drive from through September 30 to provide jeans and T-shirts to foster teens in the area.
