Seminar by Author Jonathan Rogers - Thursday, November 20
Jonathan Rogers, the author of children's stories who will be speaking to some of our students tomorrow, will be giving a free seminar about how stories do their work in us and our children. The seminar is Thursday, November 20 at 7:00 p.m. in the CDS high school building. We would love you to join us as we talk about fostering holy imaginations. The seminar is free and all are invited. So that we know how many to expect, please register by clicking here.

New Student Applications
Are you interested in sending a sibling to Covenant Day next year? Do you have a friend or coworker who would like to apply? We are now accepting admissions applications for students who will be NEW to CDS in 2015-2016. The deadline to be considered for the first round of acceptances is January 15.

Please note that this application period is NOT re-enrollment for current CDS students; re-enrollment takes place right after Christmas. You will receive a letter from CDS at that time. This period is for students who are not currently enrolled at CDS. Applications are online at on our Student Applications page.

New Traverse Climbing Wall
Check out our new physical education enhancement — a 36-foot-long climbing wall. Students from TK - 8th grade will have the opportunity to learn and practice their climbing skills, build upper body strength, develop problem solving skills, and overcome some fear ... on the new, colorful, and exciting wall. Mark Davis' Charge to National Honor Society Inductees
Congratulations to our 2014 National Honor Society inductees! On November 5, fifty high school students were inducted into the CDS chapter. In addition to student speeches reflecting on the four pillars of the organization, Mark Davis gave a charge to the new inductees. Click here to read his speech.

Middle School

Exam Schedule
First semester exams will be held on December 17, 18, and 19 (Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday). Middle School students will be dismissed at noon on exam days. Click here for more information and the exam schedule. A study hall will be provided on Wednesday until 2:45 and on Thursday until 3:10 (normal dismissal time). Students will be expected to be in their regular school uniforms on exam days.

Lower School

3rd Annual CDS Turkey Trot 3K
ALL TK-5th grade students, staff, and parents are welcomed and encouraged to participate in a 3K/1.86 mile run around the church/school property. Cost to participate: ALL racers are required to bring one can/box of food by Tuesday, November 25 — to be donated to the Matthews HELP Center. The event will be held Wednesday, November 26. Race start times:

Please note that the lower and middle school campus will be closed to all cars from 8:30-11:00 a.m. Parking will be available at outside lots of the worship center. Please use entrances closest to Hwy. 51.

Campus Spirit Rocks
Just a reminder: there are two spirit rocks on the CDS campus and they are designated for the middle and high school community use. Although lower school does not have a spirit rock, they will be able to enjoy one when they reach middle school. Thank you for your cooperation.

Cold and Flu Season
As we approach cold and flu season, our school nurse wanted to share some recommendations and guidelines. Click here for the letter from the school nurse. Please remember that effective hand washing is the best tool for preventing the spread of illness. Should your child become ill, we ask that you keep him/her home, as we do not want to spread germs to other students. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Lindsey Chambliss, school nurse.

Author Jonathan Rogers to speak with CDS students on Friday, November 21
Jonathan Rogers is the author of four novels for middle grade readers — The Bark of the Bog Owl, The Secret of the Swamp King, The Way of the Wilderking, and The Charlatan’s Boy — as well as three non-fiction books — The Terrible Speed of Mercy: A Spiritual Biography of Flannery O’Connor, The World According to Narnia, and Saint Patrick: A Biography. A graduate of Furman University and Vanderbilt University, he holds a PhD in seventeenth century British literature and teaches literature at New College near Nashville, TN. Jonathan Rogers will be speaking to selected grades on Friday, November 21. Books will be available for sale during his visit, but if you would like to pre-order one of his books, go to At checkout, use the coupon code ‘charlotte’ and the shipping cost will zero out.

Spelling Bee
Covenant Day School’s Spelling Bee will be Wednesday, November 26 at 8:30 a.m. in the worship center. Class representatives from fourth through eighth grades will be competing for the title of the CDS school champion. All are welcome to join.

Junior Squash Clinics
The Charlotte Squash Club is offering junior clinics for CDS students on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:30-5:30 p.m at 5660-C International Drive, 28270. It's not too late to sign up for the winter term, which runs through February 4. The cost for the term is $250 and includes league matches and tournament. basketball tournamentCoca-Cola Christmas Classic
Join us for our 11th annual basketball tournament — the Coca-Cola Christmas Classic — December 5 & 6, 2014. Games will be held Friday, 4:00-8:00 p.m., and Saturday, 8:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. Admission is $10 for a weekend pass. You may also purchase a daily pass (Friday only: $5; Saturday only: $10). Fine Arts

High School Musical
Audition results for Seven Brides for Seven Brothers will be posted immediately after school on November 17. There will be a mandatory meeting for parents of students who are cast or are considering working on the crew on Monday, November 17 at 7:00 p.m. in the Harbor auditorium. Please email Mrs. Thomas if you are unable to attend or if you have any questions. Performance dates are March 19–21, 2015.

Middle School/High School Christmas Concert
Please join us on Friday, December 12 at 6:30 p.m in the Christ Covenant Worship Center for the CDS MS/HS Christmas Concert. The concert will feature all musical performing ensembles from 6th grade through high school. We need lots of help to make this event happen! Choir Updates
Congratulations to Lance Lokas for his participation in the NC Honors Chorus this past weekend. He was one of only fifteen 6th grade students that were accepted. He also had the opportunity to be featured in a short duet. Way go to, Lance!

The MS choir and HS a capella groups will be performing at the Billy Graham Library on Friday, December 5 at 7 p.m. Join us as we celebrate Christmas with some of our favorite carols.

Theater Updates
Congratulations to the high school theater students and their successful performance of “The Tempest” at the North Carolina Theatre Conference. CDS students received the following awards: Set Design and Sound Design — Amadea Dancu, Logan Foltz, Abby Lee, Gabriel Moore and Hunter Stilwell; Excellence in Acting — Erin McNulty.

The Parents Association is still seeking homemade food item donations to sell at our annual Holiday Market and Casserole Sale. Items such as chicken and beef casseroles, lasagna, soups, baked goods, side dishes, jarred goods, and breakfast casseroles are big sellers but all homemade food items are welcome! Please sign up to donate by clicking here. All proceeds will benefit Parent Association events at CDS. We will be accepting all food donations on Thursday, November 20 between 2:30-4:00 p.m. in the Fireplace Room. Please bring your item fully frozen (unless fresh), unpriced, with ingredients listed. Thank you!

Merry Makers Needed for the PA Christmas Luncheon Honoring Teachers and Staff
