Our "Readers are Leaders" Program for the 2014-15 school year launched on Monday, September 8. Students in grades 1-8 will have the opportunity to participate in this reading incentive program through the LS/MS Media Center. CDS Moms: Come Pray With Us!
Moms in Prayer groups meet weekly for one hour to give praise and thanks to God and to uplift our school family in prayer to Him! Come whenever you can. There are two opportunities each week:
Small Group Bible Study
CDS Moms: There is a small group Bible study that will meet right after Wednesday morning dropoff, from 8:15-9:30 a.m. Come join other women to study the Book of Mark under the Christ Covenant Anchor Ministry. Register soon in order to be a part of the kickoff dinner this Tuesday evening, September 16. This small group will begin on Wednesday, September 24. Freshman/Sophomore Guidance Information Night
All parents and students are invited to attend this Guidance Information Night on Monday, September 15 at 6:30 p.m. in the high school gym. This meeting is designed for parents of freshmen and sophomores. Students are welcome to attend. We will be discussing the importance of a full high school experience and what that includes. We will also recommend topics and action points upon which parents and students should focus their time and energy. This will include preparation for the college search and admissions process. Information about the PSAT will also be presented.
Junior/Senior Parent Information Night
All parents and students are invited to attend the Junior/Senior Parent Information Night on Monday, September 22 at 6:30 p.m. in the high school gym. Ms. Mills will be addressing the following topics as well as have a time of Q&A:
Charlotte Area Independent Schools College Fair
The Charlotte Area Independent Schools (CAIS) College Fair attracts close to 200 representatives from colleges and universities from across the country, providing first-hand information to area high school students and their parents during the college search process. The event will be held Saturday, September 27 (1:00-3:00 p.m.) at the Charlotte Convention Center. Make the most of your college fair experience! Go to www.caiscollegefair.com/fair/students for ideas on how to prepare, including creating address labels beforehand to save you time when filling out contact cards.
Christian College Fair
On Monday, September 29 (9:30-11:30 a.m.), the CDS Guidance Department will host 30-40 Christian colleges in the high school gym. All students will be given an opportunity to attend the fair during their morning classes.
National Christian College Fair
A National Christian College Fair will be held Monday, September 29 (6:30-8:30 p.m.) at Charlotte Christian School. More information, including a list of colleges and universities that will be represented, is available at myblueprintstory.com. Register online in advance. Students should print their barcode or save it on their smart phone to expedite entrance into the fair.
High School Robotics Team
The new CDS high school robotics team will be competing in the FIRST® Tech Challenge, FTC, which is a robotics competition based on a sports model. Teams are responsible for designing, building, and programming their robots to compete against other teams. Team size is limited and practices will be primarily after school. PSAT on October 15
9th-11th graders: mark your calendars! The PSAT - a practice version of the SAT college admissions exam - will be given on Wednesday, October 15 (8:15-11:45 a.m.) at Covenant Day High School. Sitting for the PSAT will benefit students by creating familiarity with the material on the SAT, creating a baseline of scores for a student, as well as measuring the natural progression of student scores because of the classroom learning that is taking place from 9th to 11th grade. **There is no need to register for this exam. All CDS 9th-11th grade students are automatically registered and will be expected on PSAT day.
Middle School Movie Night
Save the date! The Middle School Movie Night will be Friday, October 3. It'll be a fun, social evening for all middle school students. Click here for more information or to volunteer.
Praise Dance starts Monday, September 15 in the Fireplace Room. It's not too late to register! Click here to download the enrollment application. Contact Crystal Coleman at CrystalColeman18@yahoo.com for details. Classes are once a week on Monday afternoons. K-2nd grade class meets 3:30-4:30 p.m. ($50/month) and 3rd-5th grade class meets 4:30-6:00 pm. ($65/month).

Lower School's Junior FIRST LEGO League
This team is for children in 2nd and 3rd grade and is designed to capture young children’s curiosity and direct them toward discovering the wonders of science and technology. Teams will build a model that moves and develop a “Show Me Poster” to illustrate their design. Space is limited and information on team selection will be provided for families who express interest. Practices are held after school on Thursdays from 2:55 - 4:15. Contact Carol Mace at email@example.com if you are interested.

Soccer Shots Premier
Soccer Shots Premier focuses on individual skill, fitness, and sportsmanship for children in kindergarten through 5th grade. Each session provides an opportunity for children to be challenged through fun games and team competitions. The fall season starts September 15. Afterschool Art with Mrs. E
3rd-8th graders are invited to register for one of these five-week art classes, where we will have lots of fun learning and creating art afterschool! Group lessons will involve a variety of media, techniques, and processes. The classes will be held Mondays (September 22-October 20) and Tuesdays (September 23-October 28) from 3:15-4:30 p.m. in the MS Art Cottage. Click here to download the registration form.
Middle School Musical - The Little Mermaid
CDS Middle School Theater will present The Little Mermaid on October 30 at 7:00 p.m., October 31 at 7:00 p.m., and November 1 at 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. Congratulations to all the cast members! We look forward to seeing all of you at your first rehearsal on September 2 from 3:30 – 5:30 p.m.
Sell Your Band Instruments
Do you have a band instrument gathering dust in your house? Would you like a few extra dollars? If so, consider selling it! Just send the following information to Ms. Tuttle: instrument, brand, model #, condition, and asking price. She will keep a list for band students who are renting or will need an instrument for beginning band. If you are unsure of any of the information, please contact Ms. Tuttle (firstname.lastname@example.org) to make an appointment for her to check your instrument.

Holiday Market and Casserole Sale
Mark your calendar for the 3rd Annual CDS Holiday Market and Casserole Sale!! It will be held Friday, November 21, 7:30-4:00 p.m. at CDS. This year, we will be having cooking parties to help bake items for the sale. We're also still accepting vendor applications. Lions Cup Tennis Tournament
Save the date and grab a tennis partner! The annual ladies CDS Lions Cup Tennis Tournament is set for Monday, October 20 at Blakeney Racquet and Swim Club from 9:00 a.m.-noon. All skill levels invited, from beginners to seasoned players. Cost is $50 and includes includes bagels, coffee and catered lunch! Don't forget to bring cash or check for the Silent Auction! Needy Feet Shoe Drive
Please save your outgrown or worn comfortable shoes to donate to needy feet in the country of DR Congo. Flip flops, sneakers, even comfortable flats are welcome! Any shoe that will protect feet from the harsh realities of parasites, thorns, and burning sand could be life saving! More information will be available in October. Contact Hannah Wylie, 5th Grade, with questions.
The Covenant Day High School Beta Club will be hosting a Jeans Drive from September 15 to September 30 to provide jeans and T-shirts to foster teens in the area. If you would like to help with this effort, please bring new or slightly used jeans and/or T-shirts during the drive and drop them in the labeled bins in Lower School, Middle School, or High School lobbies. CCC Hiring Childcare Workers
Christ Covenant Church is currently hiring childcare workers for women's small groups and Bible studies on Tuesdays (9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.), Wednesdays (9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.), and Thursdays (9:00 – 11:45 a.m.).
