PERFORMING ARTS: THEATER

The Theatre Arts program is designed for students to explore their creative abilities to speak and to provoke them to be the examples that God has called believers to be.  At Covenant Day we strive for students to have a quality experience in theatre arts by offering diverse opportunities for them to perform, create, and critique.


There are four components that are the focus in CDS theatre. We prepare for acting by using various learning activities, developing skills in characterization, improvisation, method acting, observation, and other techniques. We polish performance by developing the ability to create believable characters and scenes; polishing skills in stage business, stage direction, and blocking. We perform with confidence, energy and excitement. We peruse personal performance through videos, written and oral critiques of performances as the final step of our learning experience.  Through carefully directed evaluation and reflection that students develop as individual learners and connoisseurs of theatre for the rest of their lives.


Students are expected to be disciplined in their study, focused in their thought, and creative in their expression. They learn theoretical and performance skills in the classroom and apply this knowledge on the public platform.

As part of their curricular training, middle and high school drama students perform in chapels, assemblies as well as A Night of One Acts at the end of each semester.

A school-wide production during February allows for a wider population of students to participate as actors, tech crew, musicians, stage managers, program and production design and other tasks.
